Born in Celina, Ohio, Max Bowser exhibited an early interest in journalism. He was editor of his high school newspaper for three years.
After high school, he worked on weekly Ohio newspapers, first in Coldwater and then in Eaton. On the Eaton Press-Review he was editor and a 'string' correspondent for the Associated Press, the Dayton Journal Herald and the Cincinnati Times-Star.
His newspaper career was interrupted by World War II. During a tour in the Air Force, he went from a headquarters clerk to an intelligence officer in the Philippines.
After World War II he was employed on newspapers in California: Monrovia, Arcadia and in the San Fernando Valley. But again the Air Force called. This time it was the Korean 'conflict'. During those hostilities he spent most of his time in Taegu, Korea.
But, by then he decided to make a career of the Air Force. He served a total of 24 years. Besides the Philippines, Japan an Korea, he was stationed in Germany, Turkey and Vietnam, plus various stateside bases. He retired in April 1970 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
While at his last duty station in the Air Force - Langley Air Force base In Hampton, Virginia - Mr. Bowser became interested in the stock market. And, he decided to make the stock market his specialty during his post-military career.
His first step in that new career was to go to college to broaden his business background. In the spring of 1973 he graduated magna cum laude from Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia, with two associate degrees - one in accounting and the other in business administration.
From 1973 to 1979 he further studied the stock market, refining his techniques for investing in low-priced equities. It was also during this period he decided to concentrate on stocks selling for $3 a share or less. Too, he the determined the format for the newsletter, principally by mailing it to a select group across the country an considering their various suggestions.
Although it initially only had 40 paid subscribers in 1979, The Bowser Report is now in the top 5% in circulation among the hundreds of investment newsletters.
Bowser finds his experience as a military intelligence analyst is not dissimilar to his present role as a securities analyst. The technique is the same - bringing together various facets of information and from this mass of information, deducing future action. Also, his many years of writing simplifies his task of monthly preparing The Bowser Report.
